The
WWII German MG-42 further entrenched the German reputation for
brilliantly engineered machine guns in that this was one of the
first ever to employ an extensive number of stamped components
along with a stamped receiver. Intended to be mass produced
cheaply and efficiently, the most surprising quality of the
MG-42 happens to be its quality and all but unparalleled
reliability. This design is so good that it is still being used
today by the German army in almost unchanged configuration - and
by the armies of many, many other nations.
