The MP-3008 was produced during the dying days of the Third Reich and issued to the Volkssturm (essentially hastily organized 'home guard' units comprised of civilians) in a last ditch effort to defend Germany from the invading allied armies. It resembles the British STEN gun save for its vertical magazine and the fact it accepts MP-38/MP-40 magazines. Due to their comparatively crude manufacture these were considered less desirable from a military standpoint for post-war issue and were thus mostly destroyed rather than kept in the inventories of post-war countries' arsenals (whereas weapons such as the MG-42, MP-38, MP-40, and even K98 bolt action rifles were often retained in war reserves). As a result the MP-3008 has become exceedingly rare and sought after by collectors.
The original MP-3008 was a full-auto submachine gun and therefore beyond reach of most Canadian collectors - until now! The German made BD-3008 is a newly manufactured 'semi-automatic only' short-barrelled carbine which can be owned by any Canadian who can legally acquire a handgun. Collectors, military enthusiasts and 'living history' re-enactors finally have access to a meticulously recreated semi-auto reproduction of the 'Volks weapon' issued to civilians and remnants of the wehrmacht in late 1944 and early 1945.
Now, thanks to Sport-Systeme Dittrich, a newly manufactured German made 'semi-automatic only' reproduction of the MP-3008 is available to any Canadian who is legally permitted to acquire a handgun (these carbines are 'restricted' due to their barrel length). As with SSD's BD-38 and BD-44, extensive research and engineering has been invested into recreating these famous firearms even to the point of stamping them with authentic-looking 'waffenamts'! Everything except the 'semi-automatic only' fire control system (please note these rifles will not accept original trigger group components) - including the welds and skeletonized stock - is meticulously reproduced to resemble the unobtainable originals.
