German-made 'semi-automatic only' MP44

SSD BD-44

Arguably the single most revolutionary small arms design of the Second World War, the MP-44 (a.k.a. StG-44 where the 'StG'stands for 'Sturmgewehr' which translates to 'Storm Rifle') gave rise to the English term 'assault rifle' and ushered in the era of the automatic rifle. According to some historical accounts the term 'MP' for 'maschinenpistole' ('machine pistol') was originally given to the rifle to hide its true purpose from der Fuhrer, who was opposed to replacing the Mauser K98 bolt-action rifle. Collectors please note that while there were some small differences between the MP-44 and StG-44, these were largely minor, mostly cosmetic, and largely inconsequential to the carbine's function.

The select fire WWII German MP-44 with its 7.92x33mm a.k.a. '7.92k' intermediate cartridge afforded the soldier more than sufficient range and accuracy to engage targets at up to 300 metres with a light short-barrelled carbine controllable enough in full-automatic fire (please note our BD-44 is 'semi-automatic only') to fill the role of a submachine gun at close range. Fortunately these rifles entered the war too late to change its outcome though it is worth noting that since the cessation of hostilities in 1945 every one of the world's major armies have universally adopted their own light select fire service rifles.

Now, thanks to Sport-Systeme Dittrich, a newly manufactured German made 'semi-automatic only' reproduction of the MP-44 is available to any Canadian who is legally permitted to acquire a handgun (these carbines are 'restricted' due to their barrel length). As with SSD's BD-38 and BD-3008, extensive research and engineering has been invested into recreating these famous firearms even to the point of stamping them with authentic-looking 'waffenamts'! Everything except the 'semi-automatic only' fire control system (please note these rifles will not accept original trigger group components) - including the stamped receiver and rough forged gas block - is meticulously reproduced to resemble the unobtainable originals.
