ArmiSport U.S 1842 Pattern Musket
U.S. 1842 Musket
This was both the last U.S. made military musket in .69 calibre and the first American military long arm standardized
enough for full parts interchangeability between muskets made at Springfield and Harpers Ferry armouries. With over
250,000 originally produced between 1844 and 1855, many militia units were equipped with ’42 pattern muskets at the
start of the Civil War. Both the smoothbore 1842 pattern musket and its .69 calibre rifled barrel counterpart (the
latter a conversion equipped with long-range sights) were used during the early years of the War Between the States
until enough
1853 3-band and
1858 2-band Enfield rifled muskets,
1861 Springfield rifled muskets,
and (for the South)
1862 Richmond rifled muskets became available to phase
the ‘42s out by the end of 1863.
Armi Sport Chiappa 1842 Pattern Smoothbore and Rifled Muskets
Recreated in exacting detail by skilled craftsmen at Armi Sport’s
European facilities, each ’42 pattern musket is fitted with a
hand-rubbed oil finish American walnut stock with ‘U.S.’ marked
buttplate and ‘correct’ riveted sling swivels. Even the period
markings are faithfully reproduced: U.S. eagle in front of the
hammer, ‘Springfield’ 2-line markings behind the hammer, lock
and tang marked ‘1847,’ and V.P./eagle head proof marks on
the breech. Both have 42” barrels: choose from smoothbore or
rifled musket with 3 groove ‘1x1660mm twist’ barrel.
