1853 3-Band Enfield and 1858 2-Band Enfield Rifled Muskets

The Enfield 1853 pattern “first model” 3 band rifle was manufactured in England between 1853 and 1863 by several different contractors. Both it and the 1858 2 band variant, the latter originally produced for the Royal Navy, saw use throughout the British empire and on both sides of the Civil War and earned a well-deserved reputation for being amongst the most accurate and reliable military long arms of their time. Both versions soldiered on into the cartridge era after being converted into Enfield-Snider rifles by the British during the late 1860’s and 1870’s.
