ArmiSport Kentucky Rifled Muskets
‘Kentucky Rifle’ series rifled muskets
Originally developed in the 1730’s, the ‘Kentucky Rifle’ (also known by various other names
including ‘Kentucky,’ ‘long rifle,’ and ‘hog rifle’ among others) was designed to meet the
unique needs of the American frontier. Built lighter, sleeker, and firing smaller calibre
ball than their heavier, more unbalanced European counterparts, the Kentucky rifle was not
only more accurate but used gunpowder and lead – both of which were scarce commodities in
early America – much more conservatively than the bigger bore old world muskets. Its
effective range was over three times that of the British ‘Brown Bess’ smoothbore musket,
making both the American ‘long rifle’ and the frontiersmen who carried it legends in their
own time.
Armi Sport Chiappa Kentucky Rifles
Now you can relive the early days of the American frontier with one of the most popular
muzzle-loading long arms of yesterday (and today)! Recreated with attention to detail
and European craftsmanship by Armi Sport, each Kentucky Rifle sports a hand-rubbed oil
finish American walnut stock with solid brass buttplate. The trigger guard, patchbox cover,
sideplate, thimble, and nose cap are also solid brass while the lock plate is case-hardened
steel. Each rifle is equipped with a 35” six groove .45 calibre rifled barrels with 1 twist
in 920mm – perfect for traditional hunting or target shooting. We offer flintlock (no P.A.L.
required) and percussion versions (many original Kentucky rifles were later converted to
this during the 19th century).
